Medical Assistants are important members of many health care teams. They typically perform both clinical and administrative tasks that keep the offices of physicians and other health care practitioners running smoothly. The exact duties of medical assistants will vary by employer, depending upon the specialty of the practitioner, and the location & size of the practice. Administrative office responsibilities may consist of handling insurance forms, billing and bookkeeping; updating and filing medical records; scheduling appointments and arranging for hospital admissions; and more. Clinical duties may range from taking medical histories and vital signs, to collection of laboratory specimens, to providing basic patient instructions, and all such duties are generally under the supervision of a licensed health care provider.

Foreign educated nurse with at least two years of practice Or a Patient Care Technician

In addition to the realistic laboratory environment FEI provides, we also offer a hands-on working experience called an externship. Our Medical Assistant externship is 10 weeks long for both our day and evening programs.

How long will it take me to
complete this training?

This program can be completed in six (9) months and consist of four (7) months of theory and lab and two (2) months of Clinical Externship. Classes meet Monday-Friday 9 AM to 1 PM or 6 PM -10 PM.

What skills will I learn?

Upon completion of this program, student will be able to:

	Demonstrate accepted professional, communication and interpersonal skills
	Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to perform phlebotomy & EKG
	Demonstrate Knowledge Of, Apply and Use Medical Instrumentation Modalities
	Demonstrate an Understanding of Anatomy and Physiology Concepts Perform Basic and Diagnostic Clinical Laboratory Procedures
	Demonstrate and apply Minor Treatments.
	Demonstrate administrative office responsibilities including handling insurance forms, billing and bookkeeping; updating and filing medical records; scheduling appointments and arranging for hospital admissions; and more
